Le Gaillon...

  • A tastefully restored 200-year-old stone farmhouse in the heart of the lush rolling hills of the Pays de Bray. The interior has retained the charm and character of a traditional Normandy farmhouse, but with all the comforts of a modern home, making it ideal for summer or winter holidays.

  • Le Gaillon's location is what makes it so special... It's a great place to chill out and recharge your batteries - high above the village it is tranquil and private in its own 3/4 acre garden, with breathtaking views over the lush rolling hills of the Pays de Bray, yet only just over a mile from the village shop.

  • Easy to get to - just 2 hours from Calais via the new A16 motorway (described by the Mail on Sunday as "the quietest in Europe"), 40 minutes from Dieppe or 1 hour from Le Havre.

  • In the summer soak up the sun on the south-facing suntrap terrace, have a barbecue, listen to the birdsong and the buzzing of the bees. Play table tennis, babyfoot, volleyball, and let the children roam and discover the wildlife in the 3000m2 garden.

  • When the weather is cooler, enjoy a cosy evening in front of the log fire and snuggle up in our big squashy sofas with our selection of books, games and videos.

  • Just 10 minutes from the delightful spa town of Forges-les-Eaux, with its market, restaurants, casino and thalassotherapy spa, pretty lakes and woodland walks; and 20 minutes from Neufchatel-en-Bray, home of the famous heart-shaped cheese.

  • 30 minutes from historic Rouen where Joan of Arc was burnt at the stake. Great shopping in the cobbled streets of Rouen's old town and at the weekly market.

  • The lovely beaches with sand and rock pools at low tide along the stunning white-cliffed "alabaster coast" near Dieppe are just 40 minutes away - enjoy succulent sea food in the markets and restaurants and don't forget to try the famous "Marmite Dieppoise" fish casserole

  • Plenty to do in the local area - golf, cycling, swimming, fishing etc - see "Things to Do" section for more details.

  • A great base for day trips to Honfleur, Bayeux, Normandy landing beaches, 1st World War battlefields. Only 70 miles from Paris - take a day trip to see the sights or for some retail therapy; or treat the children to a day at Disneyland.

The Accommodation...

All rooms overlook the garden and those upstairs have breathtaking views to the distant Foret de Lyons.

The stone construction of the house means that it remains lovely and cool in the summer months, yet retains the heat in the winter to keep it nice and cosy. There are two fireplaces, the one in the kitchen is known as an "insert" glass-fronted wood-burning fire and is vented in the chimney to provide extra heat in both the dining room and upstairs bedrooms. In addition there are electric radiators in all the rooms.

The house is very spacious (150m2) and has been furnished to a very high standard of comfort - it will comfortably sleep up to 10 people - 6 adults + 4 children + baby (a good-quality travel cot is available).

However, as there is just one bathroom, we recommend a maximum of either 6 adults + baby, or 4 adults + 4 children + baby; and to reflect this we have kept our prices much lower than would otherwise be expected for this amount of space and the high standard of accommodation.

There is also an ample stock of garden furniture - you will certainly need the sun loungers when the sun shines as the terrace is a real sun trap - all day long!
